Volunteer and Support Opportunities

We need you!

As a volunteer, we can offer you a great opportunity to help shape our future and make a real difference in the community too!

Our aims:
  • Reduce poverty and unemployment for our work placement adults
  • Create jobs and training for the people of South Essex
  • Bring about positive change and help restore lives in the local community

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. We are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds to help with our important work. You don’t need any experience and can do as little as 4 hours a week – there are lots of things to get involved with and various volunteer job opportunities available. All potential volunteers are initially invited for an informal chat where they will also have the opportunity to ask any questions and find out more.

We usually find that our volunteers soon become part of the friendly New Life Wood community and probably gain as much benefit in their own lives as they give to others.

Roles
  • Opportunities vary, but we can usually benefit from help in the following areas:
  • General site sorting & tidying,
  • ​Joiner / Carpenter / Woodworker,
  • Woodworking support – to assist the experts,
  • Mentor to help our placements,
  • Administration and Retail shop assistant,
  • Wood Collector to assist our driver load the truck at collection sites,
  • Fund-raising

I get companionship and Friendship mixed with a sense of wellbeing and belonging.  Learning knowledge from others and it’s nice to impart knowledge and help others.  I have gained a greater understanding of people with health issues and addictions.

Other Support Opportunities

In addition to volunteering at our Pitsea site, there are other ways in which you might be able to help us help others:

Product Sales

Do you have the opportunity to help sell some of our products in other locations?  Perhaps at a special event – Summer fair or Winter bazaar?  Perhaps you have a shop in which you could display and sell a range of products for us?  Please let us know if you see a potential opportunity to assist.

Company sponsorship and support

We are indebted to some smaller and larger local companies for their support in recent years.  These include Tesco Pitsea who have provided goods including refreshments and kitchen equipment and Site King who have supported us with New Life Wood logo workwear.  We would be very grateful for any local business support and would be happy to publicise that generosity.

Churches

As a Christian-led organisation, we have been blessed with help from several local churches.  If you are a member of a church willing to support, please let us know!
